2024-2025 Maryland General Assembly Policy Intern
Summary of Internship:
Ashlar Government Relations is seeking an energetic, politically interested government relations intern to handle a variety of duties in its Annapolis office. The government relations internship provides an opportunity for a political science or communications-focused student to get firsthand experience, working alongside lobbyists who are promoting impactful cause-based legislation.
The intern's hours may be up to 20 hours per week. The fall internship will run from September 2024 through December 2024 and the spring internship will run from January 2025 through May 2025.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
General:
Ashlar Government Relations is accepting applications from current undergraduate, graduate, and law students. Ideal candidates can work independently, have excellent research and writing skills, and an interest in public service, government or state affairs, and public policy.
Specific/Technical:
The intern needs to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office projects (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Google Apps.
Salary:
This part-time internship comes with a monthly stipend. College credit is also available where applicable.
2024-2025 Maryland General Assembly Social Media Intern
Position Overview:
We are looking for a senior in college with a passion for public policy and grassroots campaigns. The ideal candidate will be proficient in social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook, and have a knack for design. This intern will play a key role in creating engaging content, managing our social media presence, and supporting our communication strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
• Create and curate engaging content for TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and other social media platforms.
• Design graphics, infographics, and other visual content to support our campaigns and communications.
• Manage social media accounts, including scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and responding to comments and messages.
• Collaborate with the team to develop and execute social media strategies that align with our public policy and grassroots campaign goals.
• Stay up-to-date with social media trends and best practices to enhance our online presence.
• Assist in planning and executing virtual and in-person events.
• Contribute to the development of communication materials, including newsletters, press releases, and blog posts.
Qualifications:
• Senior in college majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or a related field.
• Strong interest in public policy and grassroots campaigns.
• Proficiency in TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
• Basic design skills and familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Creative mindset with the ability to generate new ideas and think outside the box.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
